Goa Gala & Cave

Gala Goa is located on Nusa Lembongan islet one of a row of three islands located in the southeast of Bali, the Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. If you visit the island of Nusa Lembongan then you can visit the Cave Gala, an artificial cave which is quite unique in the island. This cave is below ground in limestone found on the island of Nusa Lembongan. Uniquely, this cave is home of a hermit named Made Vyasa made for about 15 years with simple tools!


Mahabharata story This cave development takes 15 years from 1961 to 1976. Vyasa made the job of masterminding the building of Goa Gala inspired puppet epics or stories of the Hindu Mahabharata, especially in the episode "Wana Parwa". Made Vyasa inspired by the life of the Pandavas who were on the run from the Kauravas army thus making special shelters made of resin or asphalt. Kauravas himself intended to destroy the Pandavas.
In the story, is told that the Pandavas exiled to the forest for 12 years for losing a bet with the Kauravas. Over 12 years, the Pandavas had to face the challenges of life in the woods. Feeling insecure and think that any time could kill her family Kauravas, so they build a cave. This cave is called "Gala-Gala".
Inside the shelter is kept safe from the Pandava army pursuit Kauravas. Five children Pandu Pandavas called safe in this house is Puntadewa, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadev. According to the epic Mahabharata, they managed to escape through the tunnel at the house made of resin before it burned Kauravas.
From this episode, Made Vyasa interested in exploring life during the isolation of the Pandavas in the cave. Because of that, Made Vyasa Cave Gala inspired building of this story. To respect the Pandavas, then dug a cave Made Vyasa cave named Gala. Of course, because the background as the mastermind and work habit to meditate, then Made Vyasa made cave that inspired this story of Mahabharata. He is building a non-stop day and night for 15 years to realize these dreams. In the year 1984 at the age of 95 years died Vyasa Made at home under the ground.
In this cave there are reliefs depicting the process Goa Gala. There are some symbols, like humans, elephants, the gate, and turtles in the Hindu calendar which means that in the year 1898 Saka calendar or in a general fall in the year 1976 when Goa Gala completed.

Gala Goa now become one of the attractive tourist destinations on the island of Nusa Lembongan. In addition, some tourists are also doing meditation in this cave. Gala Goa still remains preserved as in the beginning without the renovation. Jobs digging for 15 years who do not Vyasa Made in vain, because the land is now home to a unique destination on the island of Nusa Lembongan Bali.
